Botox (Botulinum Toxin Injections)

Millions of people worldwide have used botulinum injections (botox) to reduce facial wrinkles. Botox is one of the most popular aesthetic therapies in the world today.

The amount of toxin used for cosmetic treatments is very small and extremely safe. The toxin reversibly relaxes the muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles which are lines that appear when you animate your face. Static wrinkles are lines that appear at rest which do not usually improve with Botulinum Toxin and may be best treated with fillers.

Botox is used to treat frown lines/forehead wrinkles and crows feet. In addition to this, botox can be used to treat migraines and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

The effects of the injection for wrinkles initially last from 3-6 months with a longer duration after a course of 4 or 5 small injections.

Botox

Area 1 – Frown Lines
Frown wrinkles (Glabella wrinkles) are most commonly seen in patients with excessive sun exposure and those who have over activity of these muscles often associated with frowning.

Area 2- Forehead Wrinkles
Forehead wrinkles appear in horizontal lines in the area between the eyebrows and the hairline. These wrinkles are formed when eyebrows are raised.

Area 3 – Around the Eye Wrinkles (Crow’s Feet)
Crow’s Feet wrinkles (Peri-orbital wrinkles) are in the outer corner of the eyes and appear more prominent when laughing or smiling. These can result from excessive sun exposure combined with the skin becoming less elastic with age.

4 – Botox for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
Botox can also be used as an effective excessive sweating treatment (hyperhidrosis) in areas such as the armpits or hands. It can be injected into sweat glands to block the nerve impulses that cause your body to sweat without affecting other nerve functions.

What is Hyperhidrosis?
Sweating is completely normal and necessary for the body to reduce heat. Severe or excessive sweating is known as hyperhidrosis. Excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is caused by over activity in the sweat glands which produces sweat in greater amounts than the body actually needs. Both men and women can be affected.
