Dermal Fillers
What are Dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers such as Restylane® and Juvederm® are hyaluronic acid, a naturally existing substance found in the subcutaneous tissue of the skin, giving it the fullness and youthful appearance. They can help reduce deep lines and wrinkles, fill hollows, enhance sunken cheeks and smooth the contours of your face. Anti-ageing facial fillers are the non-surgical way to achieve younger looking skin and provide volume for tired lines and wrinkles.
As it is a naturally occurring molecule in the body, no allergy testing is necessary prior to treatment. It is therefore one of the safest injectable treatments. It usually lasts from 6-18 months (variable depending on the area being treated) but once you have had a few treatments, the longevity is greater.
As your skin ages, it loses the collagen that helps shape and support it. Natural lines and wrinkles deepen. Sun exposure, smoking, air pollution and even stress can all age your appearance. The face can also begin to lose volume giving sunken cheeks and a ‘dragged down’ appearance.
Dermal fillers can be used to treat the naso-labial folds (the creases running from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth), lip lines , very deep frown lines, tear trough area (hollows and dark circles under the eyes) , chin and jawline, temple hollowing and for lip contouring and enhancement. It can also be used for cheek enhancement.

Lip Enhancement
Throughout the ages the lips and mouth area have long been considered one of the most important features of the female face. Our lips and mouth are an indicator of our emotions and fuller lips have always been associated with youth and beauty.
As part of the natural ageing process the composition of our lips and surrounding structures alter. From the peak of fullness in your 20’s the lips start showing changes; from between the ages of 30-40 along with other factors such as gravity, genetics and smoking, the mouth may appear to look ‘sad mouthed’ or drooping. It may even have lipstick bleed lines and flattening of the cupids bow all culminating in the lips looking less defined *may be better in lip filler page?*
What does dermal filler treatment involve?
Small amounts of dermal filler are injected directly into the skin using an ultrafine needle or a cannula (blunt ended needle). After cleansing the area to be treated, a numbing cream will be applied. This ensures the injections administered will only cause minor discomfort.
The gel administered helps to plump up the skin to smooth out lines and wrinkles. If the lips or facial contours are being treated, the filler adds volume, restores shape and gives a fuller, fresher appearance.
Dermal filler treatments are only carried out by Dr Dipen Patel who is fully qualified in our modern, regulated and well-equipped clinic.
Duration and recovery
Afterwards, there might be a small amount of swelling which will quickly subside. Depending on the area treated, it usually takes no longer than 30 minutes and you can leave the clinic as soon as you are ready to do so.
No recovery time is required after dermal filler treatment and you can return to day to day activities straight away. You may experience some slight swelling or bruising to the area being injected and typically doesn’t last longer than 48 hours. Dr Patel will discuss your recovery and what to expect when you attend your appointment.
