Why have teeth whitening?

Teeth can discolour for various reasons, including eating and drinking lots of dark or rich coloured items, smoking, and as part of the natural ageing process. Whitening treatment can give you a youthful appearance and dazzling smile, and is one of the easiest ways to improve the look of your teeth.

Teeth whitening is a simple and popular cosmetic treatment, using custom trays and specialised gel to give you the brighter shade you want in a matter of just weeks. Whitening is not effective on dental restorations such as amalgam fillings, metal or porcelain crowns, but will we discuss this with you at your initial consultation.

Types of teeth whitening at Kent House

Smile Studio bespoke home whitening

This form of tooth whitening uses specialised trays that are custom-made for your teeth. Trays hold the whitening gel in place against your teeth and protect them from gel seepage onto the gums. The custom trays need to be worn daily for approximately two hours to see the best results.

Opalescence Go

Opalescence Go is a professional alternative to over-the-counter whitening options. It’s a simple, fast, and great-tasting way to start a whitening treatment or for whitening touch-ups. With no impressions or custom trays necessary, Opalescence Go is ready to use right out of the package!

  • Opalescence tooth whitening gel contains PF (potassium nitrate and fluoride). Potassium nitrate has been shown to help reduce sensitivity. Fluoride has been shown to help reduce caries and strengthen enamel. Together they help to improve the overall health of the teeth.
  • No impressions, no models, no lab time
  • Sleek and comfortable; adapts to any smile
  • Discreet, clear tray material

Frequently Asked Questions

Does teeth whitening hurt?

No, teeth whitening treatment does not hurt at all. The procedure is non-invasive and we take a gentle and careful approach. You may experience some sensitivity in your teeth, but this is temporary.

Is teeth whitening treatment safe?

Teeth whitening is a very safe treatment when it is performed by a qualified dental professional. We are best placed to look after your teeth and gums during treatment and make sure you are dentally fit before we begin. We also use regulated products. You should avoid teeth whitening kits that can be easily bought online or in beauty salons, as these could cause damage.

Can my veneers or crowns be whitened?

Teeth whitening treatment is not effective on dental restorations such as veneers, crowns, dentures, or bridges. You may find that these are a different shade to your natural teeth once you have had whitening treatment, so you may wish to whiten your teeth before they are placed, if possible. Your veneers or crowns can be replaced to match the new colour of your teeth, at an additional cost. Please talk to us about your options.
