What are dermal fillers?

If your skin has lost volume and elasticity, dermal fillers can reduce the signs of ageing and leave your face looking smoother and younger without the need for invasive surgery. Fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally-existing substance found in the skin which is responsible for giving you a fuller and more youthful appearance.

When injected under your skin, dermal fillers replenish collagen and hyaluronic acid that has been lost due to the natural ageing process. They can reduce deep lines and wrinkles, fill hollows, enhance sunken cheeks, and smooth the contours of your face. Dermal fillers can be used to treat nasolabial folds (lines from your nose to your mouth), lip lines, deep frown lines, chin, jawline, the tear trough area under your eyes, and be used to contour and enhance your lips and cheeks.

Consultation and planning

1

Consultation and planning

Initially, we see you for a detailed consultation in our practice. We make sure you are suitable for dermal fillers treatment and discuss the procedure with you. We ask about your ideal results from treatment and give you the chance to ask us any questions you may have. To finish, we plan your treatment and obtain your informed consent to continue.

Bespoke treatment

2

Bespoke treatment

We inject small amounts of dermal filler directly into the carefully planned areas of your skin using a very fine needle. We apply numbing cream to minimise your discomfort during the procedure. The treatment takes no longer than 30 minutes in total.

Instant results

Instant results

The hyaluronic acid fillers add volume to your face straight away, smoothing out lines and wrinkles. Your results are usually visible immediately, and will gradually improve over the next few weeks. The effects can last several months, depending on the area being treated, and can be maintained with easy top-up treatments.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Yes, dermal fillers are safe when the treatment is carried out and supervised by a qualified and experienced professional clinician. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance which is broken down over time and safely assimilated back into your body.

Do dermal fillers have any side effects?

After your dermal filler treatment, you may notice your skin is slightly red, bruised or swollen, but this will settle down in a few days. You will be informed of the potential side effects at your consultation appointment before treatment begins.

How much recovery time do I need after dermal fillers?

No recovery time is needed after dermal filler treatment and you can return to your normal day to day activities as soon as you leave the clinic. You may notice a small amount of swelling or slight bruising in the treated area, but this should fade within 48 hours. During your consultation appointment, we discuss your recovery times and what to expect.

Which dermal fillers do you use?

At Kent House Dental Clinic, we use Restylane® and Juvederm® hyaluronic acid fillers to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and facial wrinkles in a non-surgical way.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers usually last from 6-18 months, depending on variable factors including the area being treated and the condition of your skin. You will likely find that your results last longer after you have had a few dermal filler treatments. The results can also be maintained with easy top up treatments.

Why should I visit my dentist for anti-wrinkle injections?

Many people may assume they should visit a beauty salon rather than a dentist for facial aesthetic treatments, but this does not need to be the case. Our highly skilled and experienced clinician is an expert in facial anatomy and has undergone further training to ensure we provide the highest standards of safe treatment.

Where can dermal fillers be used?

Dermal fillers can be used to treat many areas of your face, including the nasolabial folds (the creases running from the side of your nose to the corner of your mouth), lip lines, deep frown lines, the tear trough area (hollows and dark circles under your eyes), chin and jawline. They can also be used for temple hollowing, lip contouring and enhancement, and cheek enhancement.
