What does tear trough filler treatment involve?

We offer free consultations with Dr Dipen Patel here at Kent House Dental Clinic, giving you the chance to make sure you are suitable for treatment. We discuss the treatment in detail and give you the chance to ask any questions.

We can use either numbing cream or local anaesthetic injections before treatment to minimise discomfort. We generally use a cannula for the tear trough area, as there is much less chance of bruising and causing damage to surrounding structures. Tear trough treatment can work well in combination with cheek filler.

Duration and recovery

After treatment, there might be a small amount of swelling which will quickly subside. Depending on the area treated, it usually takes no longer than 30 minutes and you can leave the clinic as soon as you are ready to do so.

No recovery time is required after dermal filler treatment and you can return to day-to-day activities straight away. You may experience some slight swelling or bruising to the area being injected, which typically doesn’t last longer than 48 hours. Dr Patel will discuss your recovery and what to expect when you attend your appointment.

What are tear troughs and why do they become noticeable?

Tear troughs are depressions or hollows that form under the eyes, often extending from the inner corners. They become noticeable due to various factors such as ageing, genetics, loss of skin elasticity, and the gradual breakdown of collagen and fat in the area.

Can tear troughs be treated without surgery?

Yes, non-surgical options are available to address tear troughs. Dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid-based fillers, can be injected to add volume and smooth out the hollows. This minimally invasive procedure is a popular choice for individuals seeking a rejuvenated appearance without undergoing surgery.

How long do tear trough fillers last?

The duration of tear trough filler results varies among individuals and the type of filler used. Generally, results can last from six months to a year. Regular maintenance sessions may be needed to sustain the desired outcome, as the body gradually metabolises the filler over time.

Are tear trough fillers safe?

While tear trough fillers are generally safe, some common side effects may include temporary swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection site. Serious complications are rare but can include infection or vascular issues. It's crucial to choose a qualified and experienced practitioner to minimise risks.

Who is a suitable candidate for tear trough filler treatment?

Suitable candidates for tear trough filler treatment are typically individuals with visible under-eye hollows, dark circles, or a tired appearance. Candidates should be in good overall health, have realistic expectations, and disclose any relevant medical history to their practitioner. A consultation with a qualified provider can help determine if this treatment is appropriate for an individual's specific needs.
